Gamesys Operations Limited, the operator of 12 gaming websites, has been fined £6 million following a Commission investigation that uncovered serious social responsibility and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) deficiencies. Identified during a May 2022 compliance assessment, these failures prompted a mandate for a third-party audit to verify the effectiveness of its AML and gambling safety protocols. The social responsibility issues included inadequate identification of at-risk customers and insufficient interaction with customers experiencing gambling harms. AML breaches involved customers bypassing AML measures and depositing large sums without sufficient checks, and reliance on insufficient third-party information for due diligence.
